Little Things

I don’t know if ya’all knew it but this was World Kindness Week. I’d like to be able to tell you the purpose of this post was to share all of the great things I personally did this week in celebration but it’s not. For one that would be crass (although I’d totally do it anyway cuz that’s how I roll) and two I didn’t do anything great this week for anyone else. Because I suck!
However, this week I have noticed all the ways people are truly kind to each other in small ways. For example this morning I dropped SuperGirl off at that special place she goes every Sunday to commune with the Big Kahuna. I hung out at my special place where I commune with my higher power on Sunday while I waited to pick her up. While waiting for my coffee I happened to notice….
A woman sat at the counter absent-mindedly flipping through her paper. She smiled at her spouse occasionally as they waited for their large order. Her coffee came up first and the barista handed it over to her. I watched as her spouse crossed the store, grabbed a straw, and walked all the way back to hand it to her. All without saying a word.
Just reminds me it’s the little things we do for each other that mean the most.
I picked up SuperGirl and we went to the bookstore next. I needed to work on my paper. I watched as a family walked in…a much older woman, a young teen-aged boy and his mother. They sat, they chatted. What amazed me however was how solicitous the young boy was with his grandmother. How gentle and careful he was of her. How this almost man took care in helping her sit and getting her water and gently her back and she coughed and struggled to catch her breath. Fills me with joy.
Happy World Kindness Week!
