New Moon

>> 23 November 2009

I was a bad mommy and made SuperGirl go see New Moon with me on opening day. I place the blame fully on your shoulders, my Internet friends. I was going to wait until Monday and sneak off to see it in the middle of the day when ya'all were at work.

But those of you who saw it early- posted your reviews. You talked about who you were going with, what you were going to wear, how you were going to avoid feeling like the biggest child molester- all the while staring at that gorgeous chest. The fever inside built and built and built and I had to go.

Now I do not consider myself a Twi-hard or a twi-anything really. I am a Bibliophile- all the way till I day I die. I read everything, including the cereal box if that’s my only choice. If I could somehow make money by reading everyday…I would be a happy woman. In turn I love to see what Hollywood does to the books I love. Rarely do they do the written word justice but when they do…it’s magic. On a side-note where would Movie Land be without the publishing industry? Everywhere I turn is a pre-view for a book-turned-movie.

I love the Twilight books. I feel no shame saying that, even as a 35 year old woman reading a teen series. Even if I didn’t enjoy what was written between the covers…I’d still love them because they encourage kids to read. Anything that gets kids to read is A-ok in my book.

We swung by and grabbed at tickets at 6:00 for the almost sold-out 10:00 pm showing. We hit Rubio’s- fish tacos yum. Hung out at the crack den (Borders) perused the shelves and listened to amateur music night- to kill time. Promptly at eight we claimed our place in line.

See this is the difference between men and women. If I told my male friends I waited in line for two hours to see a movie…the ribbing would follow till the end of my days. My girlfriends all nodded…reasonable they said.

It was cozy inside, nice temperature, we sat leaning back against the walls. Played cards, read, chatted with the people around us. A really nice couple sat to our left. He a native of El Salvador, she a native a Taiwan. Recently engaged. Neither had read the books.

We chatted about his country and hers. How people in the US rarely seemed to travel. He encouraged SuperGirl to study abroad. I’ve been doing the same thing for a year now. I don’t know if we convinced her- she’s kind of a Momma’s girl but hopefully the seed is planted at least.

I always ask people who come from other countries where I should go If I make it to their home country. He told me to go to Costa Rica- I’ll love it.

She told me to go to Modern Toilet.

Huh?

Modern Toilet.

For those of you unfamilar I won't go into it now other than to say the conversation inspired me. Every Monday I will be posting a new segment I'll call Global Trotting about a place I want to go, anywhere in the world. I won't make you want till next Monday... see my post on Modern Toilet tomorrow.

Meanwhile as for New Moon. It was much better than the first yet still painfully awkward in places. Laughingly awkward really. Also Kristen- has no one ever broken your heart before? I get more upset when the grocery store is out of my favorite creamer. Better though- they are about 80% there. Maybe by time they get to Breaking Dawn- they'll have it down pat.
