Put Down the Bedazzler HBO
>> 13 June 2010
As my Grandmother was in town last week, I had to do the rounds to visit the extended family. Up to Reno to visit the Rednecks (I almost said White Rednecks but truly are there Rednecks of another race? Do we get a lot of Asian Rednecks?) then back down to Chico to visit the Artistically Educated and Cultured and the Gentlemen Farmers.
From one extreme to the other. Cool-aid and American beer in red plastic cups to sophisticated Red Wine in fluted glasses. From Hamburgers and potato salad to hummus, hot house tomatoes and basil on homemade eighteen grain bread baked by this lovely man up the road a bit. From UFC fighting and re-building the 57 Chevy-come take a look at this beauty to Mediterranean cooking classes by a local world renowned chef and the price of sprinkler systems. My head was spinning.
Imagining our Family Reunions aren't you? I haven't even gotten into the Lives in the Ghetto by Choice Folks yet or the Silicone Valley We Roll Hardcore Posse.
I was talking to my cousin, wine glass in hand, listening as she waxed poetic about the latest Sex in the City movie. "Wow, " I said when I finally could get a word in edgewise. "The critics lampooned that movie. Rotten Tomato gave them a 9%- even the Prince of Persia got 39% and I have no desire to see that movie. Ever!" OK I didn't say that last part out-loud but you know I was thinking it.
"Oh no," she protested. "You have to go see it. It's about women in their 40's and 50's and all the stuff they have to deal with. You know- women's issues. Go see it- you'll love it."
So I did. Yesterday I went to see Sex and The City 2 and while it wasn't the most horrific movie I've ever seen- it sure wasn't entertaining. It wasn't new, it wasn't fresh. It was boring. My companions in the theater. "Oh look they bedazzled HBO and Manhattan."
Haven't seen the movie- here let me sum it up for you. Being a mommy is hard, being a wife is hard, trying to get laid in a foreign country is hard. Done. I just saved you $30- you're welcome.
I hate spending that much money and leaving a theater annoyed. Film Makers I beg of you- please do better!

Yeee Haaa! for the rednecks, I come from a long line of them. We may not be purdy but we sure know how to party.....LOL! I'll invite you to our next get together. *Winks*
Thanks for the info on SATC, now I know more about it than I ever did. I tried to watch the show once, but SJP irritated the EFF out of me.
The movie was a mess on every level. Still I laughed... I'm so ashamed.
Love this post! I'm skipping the big family reunion this summer. Hell, I moved to CA to avoid those people!
And I couldn't get thru the first movie so yeah, wasn't shelling out dough for this one.
Thanks for the twitter follow, btw
From Reno to Carrie Bradshaw--you got it all covered.
As for me, I hated SATC II with a passion.
And I'll be in Reno next month. Woohoo.
LOL I had no desire on seeing Sex And The City 2, either. Then my father wrote a review about it (posted on my blog). Even he, a fan of the show and first movie, thought it was bad. His wife aspires to be one of those gals and she didn't like it much more.
'Silicon Valley We Roll Hardcore Posse' - too funny! I'm in Silicon Valley and very much looking forward to that post!
