Road Trip:Only Not Really

>> 16 June 2010

My friend Lola invited me up to her new house today in Weimar. You're not familiar with Weimar? Weimar, California?

Just kidding- of course you're not. I live 20 minutes from the joint and know it only as the exit before the exit where we stop to go to the bathroom and get our Starbucks fix before we continue up the hill to Reno.

It's really pretty. About 30 minutes from civilization. Lots of big redwood trees, beautiful vistas. They have a resident bunny and deer. Bitch!

We arrive, pass beautiful house after beautiful house after gorgeously beautiful house and then we pull into the driveway. Well up around the mostly dirt/gravel driveway into Deliverance.

No- but you'd think so. So the house was owned by this couple. They got a divorce and the ex-wife stayed in the house for two more years and apparently she was hoarder. A real life hoarder. Who knew these people lived outside of TV land?

Everywhere you looked...stuff...stuff everywhere! They had cleaned out the inside of the house and apparently over half was gone from the outside but the stuff...the stuff it was everywhere. Only it wasn't all garbage. These people left crazy stuff- like pallets of pavers and nice old furniture and rototillers and canoes (in the dog run because is that where a canoe goes?) There was paint and cement (hardened in the bag) and water pumps and bird cages, so many bird cages. How many birds can one person even have? There's a truck and a car and a motor home and a trailer all in various states of disarray. And that's just the stuff.

The outside is also crazy- Crazy Cool. With a Goat pen and a Dog Run and a Chicken Coop and a Garden and a Compost Pile and 4 sheds. None of which you can see from the house. Because it's all blended into the side of the hill. So you start walking down the hill and you're like Oh look it's a Giant Birdcage. Where you can keep birds-outside.

I could be a crazy mountain farmer. Maybe. If there was a Starbucks.

I couldn't handle that. I hate crap just tossed in the yard. Makes me stabby.

Why do I get the impression that you like Starbucks?

Don't tell me, I'll figure it out. Just give me a minute.
