A Hop, Skip and a Jump

So the Man-child got his driver's license yesterday. Pretty soon I'm going to have to stop referring to him as the Man-child and call him what he really is....an almost Man.
Turning 18 and a driver's license all in one week. My mommy muscle is clenched so hard I'm all but immobile. This was worse than when I dropped him off for the first day preschool and he looked up at me.. well like this actually.
Outwardly I'm excited. This is his special time and I don't want to take anything away from him. I want him to have the experiences he's supposed to have. I smile. I congratulate. I beam with enthusiasm.
Inwardly I'm a weepy mess. One of THOSE mom's...saying over and over But he's just my baby.
I knew this time would come. How'd we move so quickly from when to now?
He wanted to drive to school today. All by himself. I thought I had an out- We have to get insurance first. I said. I'll call my insurance company tomorrow. But he was ready for my stall tactics. Found a policy much cheaper/better/easier than mine. Damn you Internet. With your speediness and ease of use. Oh and immediate coverage- thanks a heap.
In the door he walks..."Mom I didn't die in a fiery car wreck."
Funny, kid, very funny!

My poor dad. I got into a car crash (I hit a bus) only 3 weeks after getting my license.
Oops, I don't think I'm helping you here, am I? Well, at least you've got insurance.

hahahaha.
:) The milestones will always been fond memories for you. Glad he's a good driver and he's growing up. Such a cute pic!
You are going to make me cry! My oldest is 6 and the next in line is 2 1/2. I can't imagine them driving cars. Waaaah!!! (Your son was adorable!)
